k9delboy 138
My mate owns a small fishery and thinks he has problems with an otter stealing his fish. Each night it leaves 3 or 4 on the bank half chewed. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to trap one and relocate it or are they protected. Looking for help A.S.A.P., Del. craigyboy 1,274
theres nowt much you can do mate, theyre a protected species and its illegal to kill, harm or prevent it from using its holt(i think thats what its called),its a load of bollox, conservation efforts have broadly succeeded in helping otters recover their natural numbers and range. If they are no longer endangered, which i dont think they are, why are they so heavily protected? Why is there nothing in place to protect businesses, club waters and rivers, the only thing you can do by law is erect a fence around the fishery, but that,in most cases isnt viable oh yeh there is one more thing you could do im saying nowt, but it could be mink Edited November 26, 2010 by craigyboy
DogMagic 461
If its a mink you can kill it, either by shooting or trapping or by cage trapping then shooting it. I remember i was asked to deal with badgers once and as they are protected i called what was then defra and was told the customer can apply for a tempory licence to interfear with them in order to alleaviate damage. There were three stages of licence, 1) put a trap door over their sets so that once out they cant go back in and hence they f**k off, 2) trap and release somewhere else, 3) shoot. So first of all establish for certain if its a mink or a otter. If its an otter get on the phone.
foxfan 479
It seems that otters have been released on the quiet and have flourished round my way (south west) I was suprised to find a HUGE dog otter killed on the A38, the oyher morning. Personaly i think its nice to have them back, but the fishermen are up in arms about it.
