beagles 0 Posted December 31, 2006 Report Share Posted December 31, 2006 hi all me and blackpack and rip went out today to sort some foxes out what have been hammering a local shoots birds so we said we will go check it out and sort them for him we got there put the beagle in the wood seen a fox but he got away so we checked some earths and had a fox to ground enterd rip terrier in for his first time he done well was bayin nice then broke down got him out put another terrier in to sort him then shot the fox was a gd morning out and we done another little stip with the beagle pushed a fox out but he was away before the dogs got near him then the rain started so we called it a day the keeper was very happy and so was we dogs digging down Quote Link to post

Only one problem, they are far more stubborn on a scent that any terrier, lurcher or gundog, especially if you have more than one of them. If you get a dog fox in January a long way from home and he heads for the next county, you'll have some job trying to stop your hounds going with him. Not a bad thing if you're on a horse, but not so great if you're on foot. Trust me, been there! But I still woudn't go without them all the same, they'll find quarry that the others might never find, plus because its in their nature to bay on a trail you'll know when they're onto something. I've never known a beagle to be mute. Quote Link to post
