has anyone got any advice. i work russells, last year one of them suffered from realy bad split feet pads in the in the winter, i kept his pen extra clean, as the pea n stuff was my my mane concern. but every time i worked him thay split n he was lame most of the winter. just wondering if theres anything i could use to harden his feet before this winter starts.

might be worth asking on a pitbull forum as they do a lot of hard walking to tone em up, so im sure theyve hit this problem.

Salt on the roads and pavements can cause havoc with a dogs pads as the salt has a drying effect, try washing the pads after every walk during the winter and you could try applying petroleum jelly to act as a barrier against the effects of salt ,ice and snow

what we use when roadwalking the lurchers is "wintergreen ointment" using it before and/or after walking as we feel they need it .
