niall_b73 41
We set off on the water about 10ish this morning. We had planed on fishing dead bait most the day but soon got fed up with that idea, so on went the lures. We arrived at one of our favourite destinations and started trolling. Shortly after that I got my first bang so I stepped away from the wheel of the boat and asked my mate to take over. As I was reeling the pike in it came to the surface and I could see that it was only a small jack about a foot long by now my mate had just reeled in his rod and was stopping the boat so I continued to reel in but the fish now seemed really heavy. I kept reeling in but could not get the fish to come to the surface untill it was beside the boat and then it broke surface. I could see the markings of a pike but could not make out the shape but my mate shouts out that I had two pike on and when it came up again after a while I could then see the large pike had a firm grip of the jack in its mouth. I shouted for him to get the camera to video it but he grabbed the landing net and was more interested in trying to land it. I played it/them for about 5 more minutes before it just let go and sank (like my heaart) to the depths tho I did land the badly battered jack. I would have to say that the pike that grabbed the jack was in its 20's easily a long fish but very very wide could have easily been my new pb but alas it was not ment to be !! Apart from that I got 1 other jack and me buddy got none. Niall_b73 Quote Link to post

paulk73 151
its a bitch when that happens.a few weeks ago i was lure fishing for perch. no takes all day. then i tried a mini S plug. after about 10 casts, the rod locked up, and bent over double. played the fish for a while and then it rolled on the surface. BIG PERCH over 4lb. then it turned and swam back to the depths minus the lure. gutted. went back the other sunday, and had a 3 pounder in crystal clear water. it took the same lure about 6ft away from the bank. it came out of nowhere and is the best take ive ever had. it will take some beatting. dorsal fin rigid and a precision strike at the lure. and i saw it all cos the water is like tap water . i will be back, and i will have a 4pounder. its a special place, and best of all no body fishes for them.
