CallumT 0
I have been told previously the main noise that comes out of the springer is the spring. How noisy is this?PCPs seem more expensive first off for just the gun, then you have to purchase the pump or canister etc;, whereas springers don't require any additional things to shoot. With a silencer fitted how loud will it be?I'd like to go lamping one day and also not scare everything off in one shot even in the daytime, but how likely is this occurance with a springer? Thanks in advance. CallumT Quote Link to post
Phantom 631
Callum, Firstly a PCP is actually much louder than a springer Unless its silenced (or more correctly moderated). When shooting either a Springer or a PCP you have to be "Down Range" of the Muzzle to appreciate the differance When shooting a silenced or moderated PCP; you are more likely to hear the click, or clink of the hammer against the valve that is transferred through the stock to your ear, than you are to hear the crack from the muzzle blast. The loudest part is the crack of pellet against skull. If you are shooting a Springer that has been silenced; you will hear the sound of the mechanical action that is transferred through the stock to your ear This will sound VERY loud to you because your ear is so close. But your quarry downrange is unlikely to hear the sound of either the muzzle crack (just like a silenced PCP) or the clank of the action that you will hear. If you are lamping, the chance of your quarry vanishing with an unmoderated PCP is as negligable as it is with an unmoderated Springer. The same applies equally with a silenced/moderated gun be it spring, Co2 or PCP. Its not what they hear from the gun, its the sound of pellet on bone, that makes them run during daylight. On a night however, I have picked off one of a group of bunnies, then moved onto the next one. If they can not see their buddy doing a back flip, they are just as likely to sit around, wondering "What the Feck was that noise? Oh well, I cant see or smell any danger, so I'll carry on eating" The real advantage with a PCP is that there is so little, if any recoil The real advantage with a springer or gas ram is, it does not need an external source to charge it up. All Co2, Springers, SSP's and PCP's have advantages over each other. Phantom Edited October 16, 2010 by Phantom Quote Link to post
