Most cameras will catch a dog running mate...... You need to learn more about technic rather than throw money at a camera. You need as fast a shutter speed as the light will allow to freeze the photo. Your camera really needs to have a manual setting so you can set the shutter speed and aperture yourself. Also, when the dogs run past you or are running, move the camera with them, its called panning I think (been a while since I've read anything to do with photography) so that the camera is actually moving at the same speed so to speak as the object which is handy in low light. This will make the background blurry and the object (dogs) in focus.... try that mate and if you still need to spend money, Nikon all the way lol.

Most (if not all) compact digital cameras take a while to lock on to the subject, and many don't have a fast enough shutter speed. A DSLR would probably be the best bet for this type of photo, there's usually a lot on ebay.

Hope this helps,

Kenny
