Fair comment, Joe. I must say; I'm keeping my eye on the ground and the hay here. I figure this filly I'm after - and the Cob - will be my limit. The goats now due out of my female will be down the Sales almost just as soon as their feet touch the ground ~ regardless of colour! I have no use for milk and certainly don't need another 'Billy'. Plus, fencing them in right is set to cost me a fortune in cash and work time anyway.

My donkey's becoming a fairly big b*****d. Maybe I'll have him hauling all this 'Manure' for me - if I don't peg out myself before he's old enough! The pony? She's simply to teach me more about 'proper horses' before I get my Cob. Cob'll be my day to day transport. Right now I'm standing on the road side with my thumb out, to get in. 10 Euro taxi to get back. Hay and feed for the lot of them won't touch That sort of living expense!

End of the day? They're all just pets, really. My reason to get up. Get away from this thing and go do something more constructive ;) But, damn; That Cob 'n cart will give me a whole new lease of freedom!

Paid: If I'd been standing by the roadside when you came past with that beautiful Trotter there? Well ....! :tongue2: The lads round here like their Trotters. Never even heard of a pied one! Wow!

Terrier Man; Co. Leitrim, mate. Cattle Land. Carrick and Longford are what we consider 'The Big City'. I've learned to buy sh!t on this thing!

Funny enough, I got talking to an old fella at work the other day, so it turns out he was one of the top paintwork boys in London at one time (for carts ect)......done work for the Queen and everything.

Got most upset when I said "Do you spray em?"............"Spray em boy!.........I have never touched a spray gun in my f*****g life"..

All hand done  .was telling me, that after each coat and when touch dry, he would wrap everything in tissue paper as it dont matter how many coats you put on, the last one will allways wet all the others that have gone on before.........a true craftsman.

A dying breed ;)

.........a true craftsman. A dying breed.

My god, Joe! I could sit and drool before a man like that! As ye say ..... Isn't it a rare privilage to even just meet such people, eh? Like; They were There! I Always have time for the old folk, mate. Those who actually did what we dream - and can only dream! - about :good:

T'Man; Cork??? Isn't that miles and miles from here??? I'm sorry ~ it's embarressing as hell but ~ I really haven't a clue! :icon_redface:

I sit and try to watch the weather forecast, on the tv in the pub, and I can only make a vague stab at where I must be, on that map. Fact is, I've only really lived the two main places in england; Both were daed easy to pin point, being coastal and well and truly land marked. I've been here eight months now and have only just worked out an aproximation of my own compass bearings. I know Roscommon is one side of me. Cavan the other ..... That's It! People go to Sligo, for the hospital. Scary! F*cking county or two for medical help?! If I have a cardiac; I'm f*cked! :icon_eek:

Anyway, as regards the sporting potential round here? I'd barely know, mate. I see enough Hares ~ but I, along with the local farmers, won't touch those. Dinky little fields here would provide no sport anyway.

I've seen about three, widely spaced rabbits since I got here. Though a mate, some four miles or so down the road, reckons he sees enough that he likes picking them off with his .22.

Foxes? The guys in the nearest town speak of them. Again, I've never seen trace of those either. Not around my ground at least.

No. What we have here is Hoodie's (Gray Crows). We had Magpies - Sh!t loads of Pine Marten (apparrently) ~ though they're Protected, of course. And a world class plague of Badgers ~ also untouchable. And there's definatly Mink.

I'm told there's two or three kinds of deer round here? Never seen sight nor sign.

All in all, seeing what I just wrote; Bit of a sporting f*cking arm pit, isn't it?! Frankly, that doesn't bother me. I'm past the stage of having to run things down, 'just because' and now concentrate on taking out the bad stuff. So the monumental levels of rodents, corvids and any mink will keep me happy for the rest of my days :good:

Certainly quite enough of Those f*kkas to go round yet! (Though I'm working on them! )
