I thought the Hare shoots were just to reduce numbers/damage.

 

Never heard it was to reduce poaching, only after the ban.

Newmarket&South of England CC held very well attended meetings plenty of hares on the ground then one year there was very few hares to be seen, checking the local game dealers over 3,500 hares had been brought in shot with the landowners permission No Hares=No Poaching this was around the time the M11? was opened and it was easily accessable to the 4x4 gangs
