Too obedient.....

My mate bought a pup off me a couple of weeks ago, he is worried that,at 12 weeks old, she is too obliging and obedient. He states that she may go the other way as she grows older :hmm: I have reassured him that if he continues to praise her for bringing back quarry unharmed (he reckons at her age, she should be ragging and playing), she will continue to do so. Is there such a thing as a pup that is too clever for her age, as he states she is? Any advice appreciated lads and lasses :thumbs-up:

:hmm: there's no 2 pups ever the same, some of mine will rag and play and others will want a fuss and are willing to sit and stare at you until they get a stroke, some dogs just love to please thier owners, especially if they know something nice is going to happen after what is asked of them they do,

my pups can all sit (most of them now lie down too) and are 99% house trained (still the odd pee), they get lots of praise if they do what I ask, and they are only 9 weeks old!

my bitch, Chance was a very bright pup, always willing to please me, and now at 3 years old is a treasure to own and STILL is willing to please me, she learnt basic commands on the 3rd try mostly, and was and still is 100% recall, sit, stay, drop, down, up, give paw, etc........

I don't think your friend has anything to worry about, most people would give thier right arm for a smart, willing dog, (and she will have her playful moments too) I know because I have a dumb whippet too, and training him is so frustrating sometimes, it took me well over 2 days to teach him to sit! guess you can't win all the time :11:

you cannot have a pup that is to obedient .... as tina has said all the pup is trying to do is please its owner and not do its own thing ... what does he want a delinquent nut case that you cant control and rips up everything it gets its mouth around ...

as for worrying that it is not doing this not doing that .... IT IS 12 WEEKS OLD

the fella needs to chill out and allow the pup to mature steadily and if she wants to please him and is willing tp learn new things then go ahead and teach her ... remember the brain is a muscle and the more it is worked the quicker the dog will be to pick new things up as an adult .......

Jesus.....whats this?........."lets think of new things to worry about!"

If I was your pal sam, I would be chuffed to bits, I have seen some fecking bad dogs, sticking there nose in, wont sit, wont stay........take a lot of calling back......your pal should be happy :)

If the pup that willing to learn, I would personnaly be seeing how far I could take its training........you may just end up with an excellent dog.

And as for wont rag this and wont carry that......well, personnaly I am not even doing all that with my pup, not worried about it at all............when he is ready to enter, he will.........a dog learned me that

He sees game very occasionally, but I am not bothered if he does.......just teaching the basic commands for the next 9 months.
