Shooting ranges with semi-auto .22lr

Recommended Posts

I'm expecting my FAC on the doorstep any day now and will be on the look out for a .22 bolt action but till i do find the right one i aleady own a semi-auto (will have semi-auto and bolt action on my ticket), but i cant take it out of the gun club till i do get my fac and the range at the club is only about 25 yards so any suggestions where i should be zeroing my scopes? I will be out with the targets the day i get my fac but what range are they reliable out to as many people say they not as acurate as the bolt action.

Cheers, Liam..

Depends on the rifle really. Mine is zeroed at 60 yards, and will group around the inch mark at 100. All depends on getting the right rifle/ammo/scope combination! Try your rifle with as many different types of ammunition as you can lay your hands on, then zero with the best grouping one!

thats probably the best thing to do mate, try a few differant rounds see what gives the best groups and at what distances. it's like waiting for christmas waiting for this fac coming, the wife thinks it's funny when i phone home every morning asking if it's arrived yet, like a big kid. :)

I have two .22's on my ticket too, I bought a CZ bolt action 453 originally (really great gun) and a couple of months ago I bought a Ruger 10/22.

Now I might have just been really lucky with the one I bought but the 10/22 has been amazing, it runs winchester subs perfectley, yes I get the very occassional jam when I have put a couple of hundred rounds through it and its dirty, but I am talking like a jam ever 2 or 3 25 round magazine.

I know that everyone will give you horror stories about them being totally unreliable but this has honestly not been my experience. As for accuracy, your right its not quite as accurate at the CZ but I can still shoot good inch groups at 60 yards. I only use mine for bunny bashing and that is perfectley accurate enough.

I have found that since buying the Ruger the CZ barely makes it out of the cabinet, to the point that I am actually thinking about trading it in for something else.

On reflection I wish I had gone for a .22 for the semi and .17HMR instead of the two .22's but then again I have a 22.250 as well so I don't really know that I have a need for a .17hmr

Sorry for rambling!

I was wondering how long it would take before the hunting life started having spam like you get in the Yahoo comments sections in their articles!

Only danger there is that the spammers will keep joining under different names as soon as they've been kicked off the previous one through their spamming

To the original poster l have an old Winchester model 63 semi which l zeroed at 18 yards for the near zero which gives a far zero of 52 yards and l shoot comfortably out to 75 yards with only a 2.5 inch drop

cheers Callum
