jenksi87 3
right then lads, used to go regular with my old man [bANNED TEXT] i was a nipper, never any good at it then either lol. but the other week i decided to get the old gear out and have a go. took the lad night fishing with me and he was banging them out, only small perch, roach and skimmers, just using a 5m whip and a single red magggot as bait. he had 5 out before i even set my gear up. over the course of the night he took 24 with his biggest being about 1 lb. i fished on the feeder throughout the night and took 2bream and 1 tench, all a couple of lb using brown crumb and maggots with either double reds or a red and a worm on the hook. my tench 1st bream another bream a friend who was set up at the side of us, using the float at at around 6foot out and 3.5foot deep took 2 small roach out and that was it, until 8.30 am when he struck at a bite and his rod bowed. after about five minutes he dropped a 10.5lb carp in the net. he was over the moon, espicially as he was using an old rod of mine and line that was a max of 6lb, plus he knows about as much about fishing as i do (dont know what carp it is, perhaps someone can tell me?) the pic really doesnt do it justice any way i'm hooked now and really want to bag myself a few nice size fish. the place i'm fishing has a carp record of 37lb and bream record of 12lb 14oz, with tench ranging from 2-5lb. whilst i'm not after monster fish, as my gear wont take it. i would like to bag a few around the 6lb mark (mainly bream and tench) so are they any tips you guys can give me to help me out? i.e. what hook bait, groundbait e.t.c. is there anything i should be doing? i will be fishing on the feeder. as i said, i'm new to it and learning so try not to complicate any answers please cheers p.s. ignore the pics, i know i'm rough lol it was a long day and night Edited July 2, 2010 by jenksi87 Quote Link to post
jamiew 11
looks like the water you fish is quite pressured, maybe rest your swim through the afternoon, and put the time in at dusk and dawn, swimstim is what ye want for the method with small boilies as hook bait, maize sweetcorn also works well, carp was a common carp, atb jamiew Quote Link to post

flak88 0
You may want to try casters as feed and bait for tench, put some water with the casters and feed the sinking ones, you can use the floating ones as hook bait as long as you combine 1 or 2 casters with 3 or 4 maggots, or a worm. Try scalding 0.5kg of trout pellets into a paste with chopped boilies and a bit of hemp then mold onto your method feeder set your clutch so the fish dont pull your rod in and dont strike till its pulling like a good un (best if using a bait runner ree if not dont forget to tighten the drag before you strike) you should be bagging carp in no time!!
