New hound

Picked up a smooth haired roodog bitch yesterday- she is 11 months old, 27.5" has been worked a little but needs some training (recall, listening etc) and a touch of fattening up-she's a bit skinny at the minute.

Will be running her on rabbits and large game, with ferrets and open running.

hi hairybull,just wandering for most of the year the ground must be hard,how do your dogs feet cope,do you have a high turn over of dogs.

The ground can get quite hard, the paddocks were clay where we were before and over winter the cattle would walk over it when it was soft and leave big holes where they stepped that would go hard in summer. The sand on the river was course and was worse on the feet though. Most of the paddocks were flat-we had sheep so fairly shortish grass flat ground and plenty of foxes!!

Sometimes they'd get big blisters come up on the pads which, when they burst the layer of skin on the foot would peel away.

She seems to have settled in with the other dogs quite well, looking fatter already starting to listen and come when called. Taking her to the vet today to get her vaccinations (lots of stray dogs around so not taking any chances)

will post when I take her out for the first time and see how she goes
