Five Nations Terrier Championships

Recommended Posts

The Great Game Fairs of Ireland Team are delighted to announce that Connolly's Redmills have become the main sponsors of this prestigious International Championships and that Premier Event Catering have donated substantial sponsorship to the two qualifying events in Ireland i.e. the All Ireland Terrier & Lurcher Championships at the Irish Game Fair at Shanes Castle on the 26th & 27th June and the ROI Terrier & Lurcher Championships at Irish Game & country Fair on the 28th &29th August.

The other qualifying shows for the Championship are :

Scotland - Neilston Working Dog Association show held May 9th 2010

Wales The Chirk show, run by North Wales Lurcher and Terrier club on Sunday 9th May 2010.

England - The Yorkshire Game Fair May 30th and 31st 2010

England - Earth Dog Running Dog Finals 8th August 2010

Owners from anywhere in the UK or Ireland can qualify their dogs at any of the shows with the final chance being at Birr Castle. There are slightly different qualifying rules in that some shows have put on a special qualifying class whereas the two Irish qualifiers will send forward their overall Champion. If travelling to qualify you should check the qualifying rules with the show organisers.

Apart from the prestige of winning the inaugural championship the prize structure for the qualifying shows and final are exceptional and have at last fulfilled the commitment I gave on this forum to raise the level of prizes for terrier & lurchers up to an equivalent level to the other sports within our Great Game Fairs of Ireland. I am indebted to our sponsors for giving us their support and would ask you to reciprocate by giving yours to them.

The prize structure for the final and qualifiers is as follows :

As expected the prize fund for such an event will reflect its prestige in that amongst the prizes the winner will take away are a specially commissioned portrait of the dog by renowned wildlife artist David Prescott, €400 cash plus a range of other prizes incliuding Redmills Dog Food giving a total value of c €2,000. The Runner Up will receive €200 cash plus a range of other prizes. All qualifiers will receive a specially engraved tankard, their accommodation in Birr their ferry travel and €50 expenses.

Also in line with my commitment on this forum the judges selected for our both our shows in Ireland and the final have my personal endorsement and come from all over the UK and Ireland.

Next year a Lurcher Championship will join the terrier championship.

All we need now for a successful event is YOUR support!

Just a quick note in case Albertj has'nt ammended his post yet!! The qualifier for Harwood house at the Yorkshire Game Fair is the entered terrier class!! I've left the Irish Lads to sort out their own qualifiers and arrange their own stipulations as befits their unique situations!!

If Albertj has ammended his post, thank's Albert

Tom,

Duly changed - the material from the Yorkshire Show that was sent to me stated that they would send their Champion forward to Birr. I now understand they meant the top working dog over the two days of showing.

As you say we in Ireland are putting forward our overall Champion from Shanes and our overall Champion from Birr and also as you say, all six finalists will have been through a rigorous selection and qualifying process open to all who work their terriers before they get to BIrr. It will be interesting to see the various types of terrier put through and give fanciers some idea of different bloodlines.

You possibly think this because we didn't let you have a qualifier at your show this year. If you cannot see that events like this Championship do a great deal for the Terrier & Lurcher fraternity throughout these islands then it is unlikely that anything we say or do will change your opinion that you think your show is the only " REAL DEAL" in town. I suggest you will see that your opinion is not shared by others.
