shushyjukal 41
My Lurcher beau started off quite a handfull but over the past months has really come on. She's been spot on with commands and starting to get somewhere with retreiving to hand. Over the past few weeks she's started taking the piss. Ignoring commands, running off with shushys and being very stubborn again. It's like she's gone back to being a complete idiot and forgotten all the stuff we have done. Just tonight it has taken me over an hour to get her back on the lead and I don't want to be going there again. Is this common and what advice can you give please? She's just over 12 mths and I'm not expecting her to be 100% it's just frustrating! Cheers in advance, ad.
Annmarie09 5
GREAT NEWS! Your dog is now a teenager! Well, we all know what they're like. Just take a step back, go back to basics for a while, and she will come round as she matures. Dogs are like kids, they go through phases. Remember she's not mature until she is 2 or 3, depending on her breeding.
Pignut 4
Has she come into season? Bitches can go very "odd" in character and when you see the evidence, you suddenly realise what the change in her behaviour was all about.
skycat 6,174
Disobedient, wanting to hunt away and do her own thing? Sounds like a season is brewing! Mine all hunt harder, and on the run up to their first season can be downright obnoxious, but its NOT obnoxious really, just the hormones making her behave in a way which humans find annoying. Try to be tolerant, not let her get into situations where she can disobey outright. Or just ride it out and praise her a lot when she does do something right: punishment for hormone related behaviour will only confuse the dog. Don't take any sh*t either though. A mixture of being firm and not standing for any nonsense: not easy I know. Give the hunting a break for a while too and concentrate on getting the little things right: basic obedience. Recall in places where she can't break away: narrow pathways, alleys etc. Also try taking her places she hasn't been before so YOU then become the leader of the pack. Dogs that are too familiar with where they go all the time learn where the game is and don't need you to show them so you are surplus to requirements LOL
shushyjukal 41
Thanks for all the advice. I've noticed her licking her rear a bit more than usual but haven't noticed any colour round there yet. I have had a few people saying about her being in her 1st season and that could well be it. I know some dogs don't really show but haven't noticed any colour on her bed or kennel so I'll wait and see what happens. Thanks again for the replys, much appreciated!
