Guest craftycarper
Another trip out to the woods today with the boy, ferts & mutt. Wind was a blowing but at least is was dry apart from one shower. netted up the first few holes of the day in with one of the ferts & 1 bolted, then after a few more entries and not much showing its time to move on, nets out again and fert in then after 10 minutes i can see these leaves moving in the hedgerow, like somethings trying to get out. A quick push and probe around with a stick there must have been a couple of years worth of leaf mould but i gave up after a while, time to get the little grey knocking box out located her right by the leaf mould about 2 feet down. Then the leaf mould exploded everywhere and out pops mr rabbit and legs it, still no sign of the fert though, still showing in the same place with the finder so out comes the spade at which point we notice a wasp nest 4 ft away and they're swarming in and out A twenty minute or so dig around god knows how many roots and out pops the fert a few more digs and my boy retrieves a young rabbit dead as a dodo. Time to move on once again to another set of earths which bolts one out of an unetted hole we missed, pursued by the mutt into another group of earths by an old oak stump, so it's off to them next as she sits marking the hole it went in. bloody rabbit slips the net here to, runs off with the mutt on its tail literally around the wood twisting and turning throughout the brambles and fallen trees a complete circle of the wood like a bloody greyhound on a track only for it to dive in a hole in the hedgerow where the wasps are ain't going back there bloody thing can live to tell the tale another day, probably tomorrow All in all not a bad day, nine rabbits had although only 8 in the pic, one was in the van, about six missed i reckon, and we finished off setting several snares i had made up with the help of Woodgas dvd which we will be checking in the morning so maybe more pics tomorrow fingers crossed... And one very tired fert at the end of the day.... Quote Link to post
