pointer28 1
Hi all, Just wondering what thoughts anyone has on this calibre? I've been reading through some of the other posts and I have noticed that it's never mentioned when people asl for advice about what calibre rifle to buy. What do you all think of it as a rifle for rabbits and foxes? Quote Link to post
pegandgun 52
My mate has a .22 magnum and its a great little rifle and sorts hares out at 150yds and foxes out to 100yds with accurate shot placement. Its a bit too much for rabbits though and the ammo isnt that cheap Quote Link to post
Guest Frank
With correct shot placement, (brain or heart lungs) its a very good caliber for foxes within 100yds and bunnys out to 120. Make sure you have a very good back stop, as they are prone to bouncing a bit, the bullet that is. Frank. Quote Link to post
pointer28 1
Thanks guys, was wondering between a .22 magnum and a .17 hmr as a rifle for rabbits and foxes. Quote Link to post
Guest Frank
Go .22 magnum, less effected by wind, which we seem to have a lot of over here. Now, if your going to shoot mainly foxes, then i would recomend the .22 Hornet over the magnum. Choice is yours. Frank. Quote Link to post
Guest oldskool
Thanks guys, was wondering between a .22 magnum and a .17 hmr as a rifle for rabbits and foxes. my mate has the 17hmr but he has to plan ahead and order his ammo with his local gunshop apparently the calibre isnt that popular up here... baldie on here is the best lad to ask but i buy winchester mag rounds for about £7... i've had a good few clean kills on foxes up to 140 yards using ballistics but they were £14 a box (50 rounds per box).. irishhunter 0
its a great round for foxes as long as you hit them in the head or the neck, deadly out to bout 120 to 150 yards depending if its calm or not,the best bullets for this calibre i think are the RWS 40 grain hollow points, there deadly a bit expensive tho about 27euro a box Quote Link to post
