How often to ferret the same set befor its overworked

Hi,

I,ve currently got 3 permissions where its suitable to ferret. I'm a bit eager at the moment but don't want to overwork them. How much time should I leave a set in between visits. None of the landowners want total eradication so I'm just after the sport and a reasonable "harvest".

None of them are swarming and (touch wood) mixy hasn't appeared.

weve got 2 places in the lakes where we ferret every weekend seems to produce everytime ,,, im off work this week so will see what they hold after this saturday + its getting lamped this week aswell

Cheers mate week off work would be well handy right now....Have a good one.

I work shifts and it would work out that each patch would get a 10 day rest in between visits just wondered if that would not be enough. I also like to get out with the lamp and rifle as well.

Me an my mate went out ferreting last weekend and got 2 Rabbits out of a small three holer. Went back seven days later the dogs marked up. Caught one and missed 2 out of a bolt hole size of a worm hole.

Follow the dogs, if they overlook a warren it needs more time!! I did a hedge today that was completely blank a few weeks ago. Got one and had another couple of runs out of it.

There are a lot of variables in play here, neighbouring land being the biggest

 

i have one farm that i have permission on that is surrounded by land i dont have permission on, and which holds loads of rabbits :11:

 

i can ferret the easy warrens on my permission and they are filled back up by the over abundance from next door :11: within a week or two,

 

however the other 4 farms i can ferret all adjoin each other and as i keep the neighbouring land under control once they are done that season there is not a lot of point going back that winter, as it takes a least all summer before rabbits find there way back on (or the few that i miss) and they then breed and re-fill the warrens ready for my next season of sport

I ferreted a warren 2 weeks ago and only got a mxy bunny out of it.

The other day, i saw 3 healthy ones go into it whilst i approached it, got 2 out, missed one.

The one good thing I've got then is that on my first trips I do a bit of undergrowth clearing so next time round the hard bit will be done hopefully.
