CarraghsGem 92
for my hybrid flock (wings clipped) and my geese i have them in a 50m 4ft tall run made of electric netting, wooden stakes with plastic clips and a couple old dog kennels inside it, i also have a strip of horse elec tape running on the outside near the bottom to prevent anything digging under, i never shut the birds in, they go in and out at night as they please, i use an elephant battery fencer (for cattle etc) and have it running on full power 24/7, now for the fun part...... for the last few nights ive been watching foxy trying to get in, she has tryed digging to no avail, just a screech out of her when she touches the elec tape, she has already tested fence all the way around and hurt herself doing it, last night...... she had a genius plan........she tried to climb the wooden posts like a cat would......... she got herself so tangled up in it i took pity, (the shock from this fence is like being beaten over the head with a shovel) i switched it off and carefully untangled her wearing gloves,;- im not an entirely unfeeling bitch, nearly got bitten for my trouble, let her off, ran back to house and unleashed my mixed pack of collies, my lucher bitch and terriers, they had heard the commotion and were ready to go, foxy must of been running on adrenalin, never seen a fox scarper as fast........ even the lurcher didnt get her and the lurcher was mad keen.... never had the collies join in a hunt before either....... dont think that foxy will come back here again....... good craic though..... havent had so much fun in ages............ moral of the story, if there is one.......... electric netting if put up properly is the bombe, and never underestimate a determined fox.

CarraghsGem 92
if i had caught it tring to get my hens it would not have been set free wouldnt have if she hadnt already endured the elec shock for 5mins. she was half starved, dont blame a beast for doing what it needs to try and survive, i could afford to lose a hybrid or 2, but not my shamos i got the big dog fox the other day that had swiped my 200euros worth of a young shamo stag, he didnt escape so lucky. was my own fault though, let the stag out free range for a couple of hours.
