snoopdog 1,256
ive read quite abit about calling foxers and foxers themseleves habitat breeding etc etc.and ive read alot of your topics too and there seems to be some very experienced people on thiis site.. anyway i will get on with my story. i bought a fox caller its a primos raspy coaxer. so that night i thought i would give it a try i got my lurcher even though hes way to young to put on a fox i had to have a go it was a darknight and as far as i knew it was nearly perfect conditions.just incase any of you people are thinking ::: i had know intentions of slipping my dog and i didnt but how else am i supposed to practise.. anyway i will get on with my story i went to the middle of a field nearby where i live crouched down and gave it a go i was sqeaking for about 15 secs and had a shine then repeated the process three or four times and then to my surppise i so some eyes behind an hedgerow about three hundreds yards away i had another go and with in a few secs it was about to a 100 yards away but it wouldnt come any closer it stayed there about five mins even tho it seemed about 20 mins and then it did one ive done this a few times since and always seems to stop around that distance know some off you folk will proberly say i will make them lamp shy but how else am i supposed to practise.???? ive been out lamping quite a few times but for rabbits it would be great if i knew someone with experience and a experienced foxing dog but most of my mates are rabbit and hare men .dont get me wrong i love abit rabbiting but i want more if uyou know what i mean so any advicise were iam going wrong and what iam doing wrong would be much appreciated thanks carl ie. snoopdog goodhunting people and thanks for your replies on my injured dog hes starting to heal nicely.. Guest oldskool
i've noticed what ever foxes that are about my patch are lamp shy already.... i get a rabbit or hare with a slice down its gut and set it out in the field... get my back against the hedge and have a call... even the real shy ones will make there way out eventually. the filter helps too.. i'm no expert and i've done many a daft thing, but i have noticed lads headin into hare country with rabbit squealers and vice versa... its maybe not that daft but i think it helps to make the right sound..
