brno17 5
hi all, had a good mate out looking for a roe doe last saturday to return a favour, he's an experienced stalker so i never took my rifle. on arriving at my permission we checked some of the likely holding spots with not a beast seen so back to the landy and out to the other side of the ground marching a forest block, we glassed a deer feeding among a small stand of broadleaves so it was game on. we slowly stalked our way up the side of the forest until we were unsighted to the doe and covered the dead ground quickly until we were into the small gully that held the doe. we inched up over the rise that would give us a shot and glassed and glassed but the doe had vanished then among all the protective tubes on the hardwood saplings i saw the flicker of an ear, it was her lying down ruminating at a distance of approximately 120yds. my mate wasnt confident of a neck shot of sticks at that range so when he was ready i barked, the doe stood up only to be poleaxed a second later by 95 grains of 243, the bullet struck high heart/lung and she fell dead where she had stood up from. the usual handshake and congratulations followed then to the gralloch. a most enjoyable morning with a good mate and a result. heres a quick pic of the vixen we had the thursday before with the light, we seen her with her mate but the dog was having nothing to do with the call but she came in fast. shot her straight on trotting toward me with the 223 hit her on the muzzle just below the right eye.......pretty fatal shot all the best alan.
