Wallis46 0
Alright lads and lasses, ive only recently got a dog, shes a bull cross but its negligable. Most idiots round my area see her and think shes a pit which she quite obviously isnt ive had the police at the door even and she wasnt taken. What i can say is shes a heavy dog 55lb and 23 inch tts but shes fit and fast as she can be for her frame, running morning and night ensures that. Now i know that shes never gonna be the fastest dog or best turner but shes taught me a lot in the last year and i will always love her and shes gonna stay wi me all her life. Now i know a bit more about lurchers and there work in general im thinking about taking on a pup. I love bull type dogs and had an english bull before my current bitch so was thinking about going down that route but i confess to not being the best dog trainer ever, im self taught and thought maybe a 3/4 grey 1/4 collie maybe better for me. Thing is i have quite a few long ears on my permission but they are well spread out so i want something that can consistently catch. What do you think? Any advice very helpful. Great site.. wirral countryman 2,110
do you hunt on small or large open fields, grass or mountainous stone and gravel, you got to think of the terrain your going to hunt on,some threequarter collie breds throw quite strong to the greyhound and suffer poor feet, long toe's etc,on hard stony ground it can give problem's.Get your dog off two good working dog's with good feet and your in with a chance,I own a threequarter of this cross myself but hunt mainly on smallish grassy field's and I have alway's kept a 3/4 of one sort or another, just remember a dog can't run without good feet, look at the pup's and try to take someone that know's what to look for, little tight catlike feet, long back and tail, good bone etc,all very important stuff not to be missed,I would'nt limit yourself to just collie crosses though, there are some great other types out there,it also depends on you, some crosses don't do well with harsh treatment from the owner other's don't care,it's horses for courses,in over 40yrs running dog's on all quarry and terrain I have kept most crosses or hunted with someone who has.most of the more experienced dog lads on here will give you good sensible advice that if followed will give you half a chance, but at the end of the day you can still be unlucky in your choice, and we've all done it,its a lottery, you can only shorten the odds, 1 Quote Link to post
