Guest Frank
Hi all, Was out this morning with a mate and his 6.5 x 55 sako rifle, what a lovely rifle it is too. We spoted 3 pricketts some 400 odd yads away at the crack of dawn . Mist was around on and off and the sky was a gloriouse pre dawn red. Fallow bucks grunting every now and then could be heard in the distance, O' how i love that sound, brings on a real autumn feeling. Anyway, we was on open ground, in some tall grass and rushes, getting soaked, trying to get close to these lads. Wild country where we were. Got to within 120 odd yds and the heads were up, they had spoted us . After selecting the safest one to shoot, i got given the rifle and told to take my time, as deer watching you, can tend to make you panick sometimes, (human nature). I put out the harris and slowly put the cross hairs, just behind the front leg, imagining where its heart/lungs would be. Deep breath, out, squeeze, KA-BOOM, thwack , sure sighn of a good hit. He went straight down, head up for a split second and dead. The 6.5, sure does bring them down quick. After gutting him, it took us and hour to get him back , over some real rough ground. Cut my knuckle in the process, fairly bad, when gutting the beast  , seems fine now, still throbing. I wanted to take a pic of the rifle and deer together, but as i have mentioned in a previouse post, he, my freind, for some reason does not like to have it splashed on the net, , o well, ill get a pic of the set up one day. Pic of the prikett and place where we were. Frank. Quote Link to post
