paddy polecat 129
How do they get on doing it? Anyone got pics? Cheers. HI mate, i used to do quite a bit of ratting with ferrets when i was younger, your ferrets could end up getting badly bitten or even worse and if they are good working ferrets for rabbits is it worth the risk of losing them? i'll let you decide but its too risky in my opinion. Guest porterlord
i use ferrets when rattin i have only had one bad injury where the rat bit the ferrets cheak off. real nasty Quote Link to post
Guest thebusiness
I would have thought ferrets would be very capable of taking on a large rat! But i will leave it to the Terrier. Quote Link to post
Guest porterlord
i would say its up to your ferret. my ferrets will take large rats on. some will do it and some wont Quote Link to post
paddy polecat 129
They can mate but your ferret is'nt always going to come out best, even more so if your using smaller jills. Quote Link to post
sh 08 17
a big hob would be useful but it's too big to fit down the holes. i used to use ferrets but she died after a nasty bite so now i just use a smoker Quote Link to post
stones 23
Love ratting with ferrets , I only use jills and to date (touch wood!) haven't lost one through a mauling off a rat. I only use jills with a season behind them on rabbit and if they don't want to know don't force them, the majority of rats will bolt before a ferret but eventually you'll come up against a nursing doe with young not old enough to escape or one which has just made it's nest and is heavily pregnant that's the time you'll find out just how keen your jill is ! Also if I know the rats haven't had access to poison I'll throw a dead one in the ferret box to let them have a munch on on the way home (hope the neighbours aren't reading this ! )If you give it a go mate best of luck but like I say if they don't want to know don't force them ATB Quote Link to post
