Terrier tail docking

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Has anyone any idea how a vet would perform a legal tail docking, will they come on call out or do they have to be admitted ,anyone know any vets who may do it in the Cheshire/ North Wales area as most of them seem to think you are asking them to raise the devil.

Simply phone all your vets in your vicinity to find out whether they do tail docking. Thats what I did and found one 30miles away and because they were the only ones out of about a dozen who do it they now have my custom for any other problems. You need to show that they are working dogs and on the list as a working breed. Taking a gun licence and/or permission slips to say you carry out pest control for landowners. They dock the tails and give you a certificate for each pup to confirm they have been docked legally by a vet. When you part company with each pup, make sure you give the new owner the cert. Hope this helps.

That's very sound advice from Dillan, the only thing I'd add is that the eventual owners of the pups will also need to get them microchipped by a vet before they are 3 months old and the vet will need to enter the chip number on the docking certificate.
