Guest craftycarper
Well the firearms officer has just left and i'm a little pissed off, i think the application is gonna be booted into the horizion . The guy say's that although he has no problem with me having a rimfire and that he will put the application through he has a problem with the fact that i have no experience shooting a rifle apart from having two shotties for over a year and using air rifles for over twenty years. He would have liked me to name someone i could be supervised by or could vouch for me in the safe use of using the said rifle, then as he said it wouldn't be on his shoulders if i was to go out and shoot someone. Even when i said that i could join a gun club it still would be different to shooting in the field, and he didn't even look at the gun cabinet... Quote Link to post
Guest Frank
Sorry to hear that mate. Their must be something you can do? Sounds like his not telling you everything, as it seems they all vary over their, as i have read that folks with no experience what so ever getting them first time round. You should not let it drop, cant think what else you could do, as im not too up on the Uk forearms laws, sorry. Anyone else out their that knows what to do? Frank. Quote Link to post
Guest baldie
The fecking b*****d He is pissing up your back mate, and what he is doing is totally illegal. There is no requirement in law, WHATSOEVER, that says you need experience, or a mentor, to watch you shoot. The simple fact is , if you satisfy the requirements on the application form, you have the minimum required security, and the land is passed, they HAVE to grant it, regardless of whether this twat likes it or not, that is not his f*****g job, to give his opinion I really hope you are a member of BASC, or the sportsmans accosiation, if not, JOIN NOW.Let it go through, and if its knocked back, tell them you want the reasons in writing, as its going to you solicitor at BASC,they are taking the piss mate, dont let them. Guest craftycarper
cheers guy's, i'm in the countryside alliance so i could try them for advice. I can't see what the problem was myself, home security is ok just had all the doors and windows changed within the last two years, i have a bloody big german sheperd, i have just fitted cctv on the front and back of the house for this application, my cabinet is a section 1 which i got a year and a half ago for me shotties knowing i was gonna apply for this in the foreseable future, in fact he didn't even check that. Told me he would recomend me but wasn't happy that i had no experience with the gun i was applying for, and that he would be making a few notes on the paperwork that i was willing to get some training or go to a gun club( wow we so i can shoot a gun at papertargets in a controlled enviroment, what the hell is that gonna teach me ) and couldn't see the application being approved by whoever it goes to next, also told me to hang on to me receipt for the cheque for a refund, which is when i realised that it had gone pear shaped. In fact if i had of told him i had used them before i'm not too sure how i would have stood legally on that admission, bloody p****d off, gonna make a few calls tomorrow, then see what happens...... Guest Frank
Good man. Keep at it and dont let it drop, as thats what they want. Good luck. Let us know how you get on. Frank. Quote Link to post
Guest baldie
The alliance has a legal dept, get in touch with them ASAP, and get all this down on paper. You quite obviously had had, an "arsehole" out mate, who obviously doesnt like people owning guns.No one has experience of previously un-owned rifles, thats just bollocks. You shouldnt have mentioned a club, or training.....its not a legal requirement, regardless of what the tit says."he will recomend you, but couldnt see his superior allowing it"? bollocks.ITS THE OTHER WAY ROUND. hE DOES ALL THE WORK, AND CHECKS, AND IF ITS OK, THE CHIEF OF POLICE SIGNS IT, KNOWING THE FLO HAS DONE THE NECCESSARY WORK.If your land has checked out, and been passed for a rimfire, they cant refuse it.Wait and see, but if they refuse it, get the reasons why, in writing. If the lands failed, unfortunatly you will have to accept it, but if its for these silly excuses that you have no experience etc, you,ve got them by the bollocks. Guest craftycarper
Theres no problem with the land as there are already rimmy & 243 guy's on it taking rabbit, fox, muntjac & deer, the officer even said he knew the land & owner well. Quote Link to post
Guest Frank
Then you have a good case against him. Go for it mate. Frank. Quote Link to post
welshdragon 6
when i put in for my fac i had the visit just over 15 min it took he asked me if wanted a 223 with mod W.D Quote Link to post
Guest craftycarper
Well had a word with a solicitor from the Alliance (nice chap) he basically said what i thought to begin with. They have let me have a shottie cert so what's the problem, everything else is above board, how can i get experiance without having the gun and that basically sums it up. I mean this officer did not ask me anything with regards to safety, backstops etc. The only two questions i was asked were do you know how far these bullets travel, how many acres of land is on this farm, oops sorry there was a third, could anyone with a section 1 cert vouch for you or take you out for some experiance . So i will now wait & see what comes through the door, if its a no then i will put pen to paper and complain to the chief of police and leave it at that, sod em. The solicitor say's i can take them to court and fight it out which i think he said would then put them on the spot as the final decision could then be made by a judge, but i will have to pay the costs..too expensive, at the end of the day they granted me the shottie cert with no experiance so why the hell they can't do the same with the rimmy the problem i have now is that if it is refused for the reason i have mentioned then how can i ever apply for it again when the same question comes up again arseholes. Just a quick question guy's, has anyone been refused a firearms cert on here from the met, if so did they state the reason why or was it a sorry but your application has been denied? Guest JOEB
Look in gun mart CC..............some guys who train the police run courses for whatever calibre you want. Once you have a cert from them, the FAOs argument falls over IMHO.(2 or 3 day course I think?) I got a card from the company at the Midland, I will try and dig it out and post the details. Cant see how they can refuse when you have got that. JOEB Quote Link to post
Squirrel_Basher 17,102
Just goes to show the difference in regions of firearms officers .The chap who came to me couldnt do enough and even pursuaded me to add calibres Ive no intention of using .He showed me a chart of bullet sizes and basically said pick what you want .A mate of mine was applying at the same time and he knew this .When I asked for the 243,he said ok as long as my mate was my experienced stalker ?.Later learnt that he told my mate the same regarding me and his 243 ?.Because of the number of shot guns I have and the proposed number of firearms I applied for ,I needed a security system fitted ,which I of course did ,He was supposed to return to look at this but never did .The license was on the mat within 2 weeks .Hope it all goes well for you mate .
