Hi All,

Wondering if anyone can help me out here, as just googled the question and got nothing. My Fell terrier kills rats & my un vaccinated pup (9wk old) is around her. the pup has suddenly developed diarrhea quite bad. He is still active & drinking water. What i'm asking is; could he have caught a germ/parasite from the rats even though he is not in direct contact of them?

my pup had the runs in summer. took it to the vets straight away. it was fine after treatment. next door neighbours pups had the same virus/illness. one ended up on a drip all weekend the other one died......

take no chances mate. straight to the vets.

Get it in to the vets mate.I know I'm only repeating the good advice that you've already had but wether it's lepto, worms or some other virus a nine week old pup with the three bob bits is in danger.

Not worth loosing your little fella hey?

Could he not have eaten something or have you given him something different to eat,

lepto dosent start off with the runs, other symptoms would have been exibited before now,

In acute infections a fever of 103-104°, shivering, and muscle tenderness are the first signs. Then vomiting and rapid dehydration may develop. Severely infected dogs may develop hypothermia and become depressed and die before kidney or liver failure has a chance to develop

If its realy bad, i would be more concerned with dehydration,

pups of this age can go down hill realy quickly, there are a few bugs going round at the moment as well,

if its not cleared up and is still verry bad, i would just get him checked out, as the vets should be able to give you

something to help clear it up, slippery elm bark powder is also good to give as well,

as it helps put a lining on the gut and helps clear everything up.
