macker 5
http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/299/20092006uk3.jpg last night was the pups third night on the lamp. the first night i had him out he was doing ok but just gave him a couple of runs as he was just siting behind them and not taken his chances when he could. took him home and fed him on on some rabbit that mates had caught just to let him know what under the furr as he gets mostly nuts and chicken. second night there was little out and only got one or two long slips which being a pup did not see till too late which i called a day. left him for a couple of weeks and gave him twenty minutes on the tennis ball each day which he loves and his pick up improved a lot more. took him out last night and he has started to reward me with the time i put in. first run was easy just as i got through first gate rabbit caught out sitting tight and bobbing his head on which way to go just enough for the dog to see him. couple of turns picked up the easy rabbit.retrieved alive. second run was a bit harder and he caught but his soft mouth let him down and got away. did not run the third rabbit at all well still a bit green. walked a few fields just showing him bunnys that where a bit far and holding him back on lead. headed for home and seen two sitting tight the two got up together and slipped him on the one that looked easy to me only for him to pick up the other off the lamp. the last was beside the car which a rabbit headed for a tuff of long grass instead of the ditch. which after the lurcher pouncing on the longer grass the lurcher picked up after a couple of quick turns. to me a couple of bunnys like last night gives me just as much buzz with a young dog comming on is just as good as a seasoned worker catching alot more. should be ok if he keeps improving like he is. all the best macker Quote Link to post
