smithwicks 182
i prefer a rough coated lurcher, because they wont get as cold during the winter also the harsh coat protects them from thorns and other bushes and because i tink they look better Quote Link to post

dogs-n-natives 1,182
There are many variations in coat condition and thickness, in both rough and smooth coats. I like a smooth coat personally but a good thick one with a warm undercoat and waterproof outer, like has been said, injuries can be seen and treated with less fuss, and the dogs dont get clagged up with mud or sticky seeds etc....my collie type has a good coat, and seams pretty hardy in all weathers, unlike my bull type, who dosent really have a coat at all, a mere light covering of very short hair, offering little protection. was out today on the hill, doing some fox control, it was bad weather, very wet with sleet etc, very cold wind, and my lurcher was really suffering when waiting about... its not nice to see such a dog tucked up shivering. Im seriously considering buying one of those neoprene hunting coats..... http://www.gundogsupply.com/dokken-neoprene-dog-vest.html but id only feel safe him wearing something like this out on the open hill where there are no barbed wire fences or other such things that it could snag on when he is in persuit of the bunny.....but this is where we encounter the worst weather.
