Adam Bradford 0
Hi guys...new in but happy to be finally involved!! Like rookie hunter I am preparing to buy my first own gun dog and have also decided on a viszla. Firstly what are the noticeable working traits that separate the WHV from the viszla! And secondly are their any good working kennels in the uk? It's will primarily be an upland dog but would be keen to develop it in to a stalking dog! I Any advice or a point in the right direction would be greatly received!! Long runeth the fox!! Quote Link to post
Lab 10,979
OK so I'm biased. I've had/been involved with Cockers, Springers and now have a year old Viszla The latter without doubt the easiest to train........as a caviat it will always depend on each individual dog. The only fault I would say with the Viszla is that they are not as brave as the spaniels.....might just be mine tho' Their temperament is brilliant, good with kids, eager to please and always keen to work. Labs are just boring ! Cockers and Springers are mad! It really is dependent on what you want to do with your dog...........so there is no right or wrong answer. hily 380
you have to be sure what work you want the dog to do and then look at the different breeds for the job Quote Link to post

BellySlater 15
Here's a few "pointers" from my experience. I have a WHV and these are the good points. Easy(ish) to train, mine is coming up to 24 months and he is already steady in the field, great nose (as you would expect) and loves retriving on land and water. He is a fantastic house dog and great with the family including kids. The bad points - really and I mean really....vocal. Although i have a WH i purposly picked the darkest one in the litter. He has hardly any coat and would easily pass as a smooth. The reason - WH have a bit of a stockier frame and are a little "harder" although neither breed will hit cover hard. I believe the WH is slightly easier to train and a little calmer. Overall, I couldn't ask for a better dog. Over the next twelve months he should calm down even more and should be steady enough for the hide. These dogs mature slowly ! Quote Link to post
