There's tons of similar threads in there you can have a look through. Personally I'd feed him on a raw diet. Dry is bad for them, tinned is worse. If for some reason you "must" feed commercial food make it something at least marginally suitable like Orijen or Applaws (made from 70% raw meat and bones, 30% fruit and veg, 0% grain). As for question 3, a lean pup is a healthy pup. Don't let him get fat! If you're feeding an appropriate diet (high protein, moderately high fat, low to nil carbohydrates) he won't get fat anyway. Do some reading around the other section mate, you'll pick up some good tips. Meanwhile I'm sure someone will be along with more experience to offer regarding stock breaking and all the other questions you might have. Cheers.
sambam 8
hi mcass123 im jus bringing on my first pup as my dad braughton the other lurchers weve had so im no expert but ill give you my opinion some of the other lads mite help more what breeds are in the mix as some might need a different aproch 1.give him as much food as heel eat 2.the B.A.R.F diet is apparently the best and theres loads of info on this site about it but i get a large "sausage" from the butchers of all the off cuts and waste minced together for 30p each mixed in with leftover kitchen scraps and whenever possible raw carcasses, apparently RAW all the way. i also mix in a greyhound complete dry food and vitalin working musli 3.dont walk him for long distances at first as he is still developing leave it a while.dont exercise stright after and before meals iv been told from half hour to 2 hours 4. start stock breaking him as early as possible i started by jus sitting in a field full of sheep with plenty of smokes and a sarnie and mabey a flask and goin to the stables regularly and dont forget to give your pup plenty of socialisation with people, kids other dogs, ferrets, cats, strange places, noises and sights. and more importantlt dont over do the training like i did my pup got sick of it because i sickend him with retrivivng ect i just wanted the best dog in the world lol it set me back about 3 month if i can help at all jus ask. im still lerning everyday with my pup
Rainmaker 7
I've replied to your PM mc... Sambam has it pretty much right, except I'd say never give as much as they'll eat, as some pups are greedier than others and the last thing you want is them getting fat. I'd also keep at least 70% of the diet as carcasses and/or raw meaty bones (RMBs), too much minced stuff is as bad for their teeth as biscuits/canned food - raw or not. I'd also not bother mixing in dry food, especially a muesli which is full of grains. Cheers.
