cheers dell so no one has any experiences then

my mum has had these dogs for over 30 years so that would make 3 all together the 1st was not much bigger than a lab and a quite clever dog she had a bit of herding instinct but not alot the 2nd was bigger bout 23/24 tts and was the same she did have some prey drive and would hunt cover ok flushing with my lab for my lurcher and now she has the 3rd and final (mum says) she is 25/26tts and is big and extremly brainless very good natures on them all, very very slow to mature still pups at 11 years old i thought of crossing the 2nd with a grey but mum wasnt up for it i was living at hers at the time. the modern ones look very much like an otter hound and the current dog deos kinda bay more than bark. think the show fraternity have sneaked a few xs in to "improve" something god knows what. but they have grown alot bigger over the years and now with a lethal weapon attached to there arse its like gettin hit with a bamboo cane when her tail gets you, it can clear a coffee table in one go. they cost upwards from bout £600 so bloody expensive for what they are. i dont see anything that the modern old english could bring to a lurcher that you couldnt get with a border if you want similar coat use a beardie they have decent wind but are slow and heavy and the coats are extremly high maintenance and a working dog would take alot of daily grooming or the coat would matt up very badly very quickly on the plus side they are quite protective over there people and property and will let you know loudly if someone is about.

hope this is some help.
