410 fox control

I was having a look through past posts on the subject of shooting foxes with a 410.

So questions.

No1 Is it feasible to shoot a fox with a 410?

No2 If so which size shot?

No3 What would be the effective range of the cartridge on said fox?

 

Not about to rush out and start popping foxes with a 410. I have a 12 bore for that, just wanted to know peoples opinions/experience on the subject,thought it might make for a good thread?

Very close or point blank would be the only time i'd consider using one.

 

To answer your questions,

 

A .410 will no doubt kill a Fox in the right circumstances as with any gun, but not really feasible for any situation I can think of apart from Humane Dispatch.

 

I don't think shot size matters really, the load isn't going to have any sort of spread at the range it would still be effective.

 

Range? Taking it on the basis of an 18gram load in a three inch shell with full choke, perhaps well under 10 yards and I wouldn't be comfortable even at that close range, the most fitting use I can find for a .410 in relation to Fox is humane despatch where it is a superb tool

I think I would have a job to add anything to what SS has said above.

 

Capable, but only in very limited circumstances and best suited for slaughtering/humane despatch!
