longdog2000 1 Posted October 28, 2009 Report Share Posted October 28, 2009 £300 compensation for striated caracara 9:00am Friday 9th October 2009 A 33-year-old Watford man who stole a bird of prey has been ordered to pay more than £1,000 in fines and compensation and costs. James Long, of Chillwell Gardens, denied theft but was found guilty of stealing the striated caracara lent to him by Adam Weald, of Blackbird Farm in Blackbird Lane, Aldenham. Long pleaded not guilty in June to the theft of the bird on February 10, but was found guilty at St Albans Magistrates' Court Monday. As well as £300 compensation to Mr Weald, Long was ordered to pay a £300 fine and costs and a government surcharge of £635, making the total due £1,235. Finding this bird has been a nightmare.James had the oppertunity to return the bird with no questions asked,he admitted selling it even though it wasnt his to sell.Its got to be in the Demo curcuit somewhere as they are useless as a falconry bird.
