£300 compensation for striated caracara

A 33-year-old Watford man who stole a bird of prey has been ordered to pay more than £1,000 in fines and compensation and costs.

 

James Long, of Chillwell Gardens, denied theft but was found guilty of stealing the striated caracara lent to him by Adam Weald, of Blackbird Farm in Blackbird Lane, Aldenham.

 

Long pleaded not guilty in June to the theft of the bird on February 10, but was found guilty at St Albans Magistrates' Court Monday.

 

As well as £300 compensation to Mr Weald, Long was ordered to pay a £300 fine and costs and a government surcharge of £635, making the total due £1,235.

 

 

I know the owner and there is a reward for the bird.he'l even buy it back..

Cheers buddy Ive sent the details on..the age sounds about right.Unfortunatly Adam's isnt rung..but its microchipped.

Probably best to be microchipped as rings are eaisly cut off

 

Only problem I have with chipping is I have took many of my birds to the vets and never once have they been scanned to see if they are chipped

 

just like with my dogs only time I have ever seen them scanned was when they were putting one in to check it worked

You would think it was general practice by now to scan all animals on consultation wouldnt you?

Finding this bird has been a nightmare.James had the oppertunity to return the bird with no questions asked,he admitted selling it even though it wasnt his to sell.Its got to be in the Demo curcuit somewhere as they are useless as a falconry bird.
