ferret call

Recommended Posts

my ferret is ready to work at the end of this month and i am just wondering if you can get a ferret back to the top of the warren by whistling on it

if you use the same call every time you go to feed or play with or handle your ferrets they will learn that call... it CAN work in the field if your ferret is very accustomed to coming to call... some guys rattle their keys.. some make that squeeky sound that imitates a rabbit or kit in distress ( depends on who you ask lol ) and some... like me.. who are unable to make that squeeky sound lol.. use a squeeky dog toy... even a dog training whistle would work... so long as you are consistant in its use...

it MAY work in the field ... depending on how busy the ferret is and how well your particular sound travels through the holes.... best to use a locator of course and a bit of patience.... ferreting is NOT a speed event....

When i go to feed ferts i tap the framework of the court whilst whistling and calling them and they know its food time. I have always done this since i have owned ferrets, so when I am working them and i want them to come out i bang on the entrance to the warren whilst whistling and calling for them(anyone passing by must think i am a right numpty with my head stuck down a hole shouting :icon_redface: ). To be honest it don't work every time but each time it does work it saves a dig.
