My lurcher started opening up on foxes.[Edited-IB] She didn't open up on rabbits, hares or deer, but she decided to yap her head off and whine on foxes.[when it was legal of course]

Has anyone else had this problem??

Is it opening up on the run or when she gets to grips? When I have had this problem with young lurcher I just switch of the lamp and go home. Then start over the next night. If the lurcher opens up then I repeat the process it takes a lot of will power but a few nights lamping compared to scaring the quarry every time you go out. When I firs had this problem this is what my mates da told me to do and it worked a treat. If it is during the calling period then I am not sure but any dogs I have had have learnt to quietly watch and most sit down when I crouch for the call. Even when waiting on a slip from cover and they hear the hounds they work out what is going after a few days out. I know that the whippet crosses are prone to yapping but then on rabbits they nearly always have them quick enough.

have had this problem before.

and believe me it can have nothing with early entering although it some time can be the

cause but i dont think in your case.

i had a decent dog to fox that did this while running and it was just him being

frusted as he hated them that much.

all it did was hunt him as often as i could on them and he settled on them well

or even give him a few buunies first if you are out lamping .

my old dog would still do it when chasing them in thick cover in the day but.

hunt the f***k out of the dog and you might be surprised it worked for me.

all the best
