Been toying with the idea of putting one of those Theoben Gas Ram's in my Webley Longbow. Anybody got any experience with em, are they as quiet as a pcp, worth the money?

Any comments lads/lasses.

If you're happy with the way your gun shoots now then I wouldn't bother with the extra expense. All spring guns sound noisy when you shoot them, but that is due to the shooters close proximity to the muzzle and the fact that you rest you cheek against the stock and thus the mechanical noise is seemingly amplified. If you're concerned about noise then get a friend to shoot the gun whilst you stand 20 or 30 yards to his side. Doesn't sound loud at all and you will never get rid of the sound of the pellet 'hissing' through the air in flight.

It won't make it any more accurate, it will most likely be slightly harder to cock and the recoil characteristics will be different (faster) which may in the short term cause you to shoot worse until you get used to the new feel of it.

Not worth it IMO, Webleys are made nice from the factory and changing to a gasram won't give you any bigger bags. If you want to make a significant improvement then get the stage 1 venom kit and install that, I'm 95% sure they make them for the Longbow. :)

iv'e got a hw 90k with a gas ram in iv'e had the barrel cut down and threaded and fitted a logun silencer its very quiet. i sold a new webley stingray to a mate and theres a hell of a difference in sound when u hear them being shot. i would say put a gas ram in it if they aint any good why have theoben put them in there guns ...less noise ..less recoil...u can keep the gun cocked for long periods of time with no loss of power what so ever ..a spring is wearing out from day 1. but a gas ram aint. i go shooting on a golf course and i noticed when i had the barrel cut down and a silencer fitted that when i walked on after a shot the bunnies were closer than before i put the silencer on i know its common sense cos its less of a bang but i can shoot more bunnies on each outing and more bunnies mean more ferret food

To clarify, I never said gas-rams in general are useless, it's just that he specifically asked if it's worth the money [to convert springer to 'ram] and I gave my honest opinion.

And while a spring does technically lose power from the day it's used, it's not enough to be noticeable unless the gun is not maintained properly. Added to that a spring won't suddenly lose charge and drop a couple of FT/LB as is fairly common with 'rams.

At the end of the day there is pro's and cons to both springs and 'rams, whether you consider the upgrade worth the money is up to you.
