Advice needed

Recommended Posts

I've got a 9 week old pup and as i cant take it out just yet i thought i would try and get him walking on the lead. i thought with him not knowing what one is that he might just do it straight away but boy was i wrong.. All he does is jump backwards and choke himself and howl whilst on it. Am i starting him too early or shall i just carry on doing what im doing??

Any advice and tips on how i could stop this would be appreciated

thanks

put the lead on him and don't hold the other end, let him get used to it and drag it around a bit for a while, should pick it up in no time.

are you useing a coller and lead or a choker i would try a coller and lead as when the choker tightens a pup will panic as ferreterni says let the little sod drag it a while so it holds no fear for it and take from there. atb mate looks a nice wee pup.

Top advice This is exactly what I do ,but I do put a collar on( and leave it on ) for a few days first. Also do keep an eye on him while he is dragging lead about , just incase he gets it caught up and panics.

If your leaving a collar on make sure it's a good sturdy one, had one of them nylon fellas on a 12 week old pup and it tried to get out under a wire link fence, got caught on collar and twisted, had to cut it to get it off. Never left a collar on since. But that's just me, would only use leather ones now too.
