ferretting seasons

hey guys,,after looking at a few post topics and reading a few posts i presume you guys have a season that you can ferret in ,,,god im clever hey ,,, :clapper: over in aus we dont have a set season to ferret as we can do it all year round ,,so am i right or have i just made a bigger fool of myself ,,,jas

Hi down there. There is no official law stating when ferreting can be done but a lot of ferreting men wont ferret until the colder months due to the fact that there are to many babies around in the summer months. You can still ferret in summer, buts its not advicable. But I suppose down under rabbits breed all year round??

it depends if its done for sport or pest control, sporting ferreters normally only ferret in the winter months, as less ground cover and less/no young down the holes, which can lead to more digging, but pest control wise, all year round if the customer is asking,

oh ok ,,thanks guys ,,,yeah the little beggers tend to breed all year round but more when the seasons are good ,,as in lots of rain,,jas

 

I don't do pest control I just go ferreting from mid September until I get the first doe in young which depending on the temperature is usually early February and thats my season finished....
