deben mk1 ferret finder

I wonder do any forum members have experience in using the mk1 deben ferret finder.

 

I used my mk 1 tday it located my ferret with no problem but was wondering are you meant to turn the locater down to the lower settings as the signal gets stronger.

yes to find the right depth the ferret is at.

Aye you start off at the highest setting then when you find the ferret you turn it down and down till you get the shallowest setting then you dig there mate

No not a joke mate never had to use it before switched it on as ferret had killed managed to locate the ferret ok.

I have never used a locater before this and there are many very experienced people on here who use these locaters regularly who are more than willing to offer advise.I thought maybe there is a right and wrong way to use the locater.
