rifleshooter 0
this is a question for the few rifleshooters that know what they are talking about, i know enough to get me by but not as much as i would like to ,so if there is any books ,dvds ,or any other info that you know about it would be gratefuly received , any how to the question in hand my dad is about to purchace a 17 r/f now i know they fire copper coated bullets ,would you treat it as a centre fire and run in the barrel , or would you just leave it and just give it a clean every few shots Quote Link to post
Guest baldie
It needs to be run in like a centre fire mate, its firing a very small copper jacketed bullet, at very high speed indeed, it will also require regular cleaning. Cz,s etc tend to need cleaning at 40 - 50 rounds to keep them sweet, whereas a better quality barrel like an Anschutz will go a little longer between fettlings. You will tell, the accuracy just drops right off. Quote Link to post

Guest A Sick Old Man
I have heard that .17's need a clean after ten rounds, I do not do this but clean after every use. Trust me on this though, get a Dewy http://www.deweyrods.com/dealer.htm cleaning rod, they are the dogs nuts Its a tiny bore and I would pay the money for the best, there brushes are very good quality and fit the bore well, good luck with it mate. You will be impressed with its accuracy and its ability to do the job properly, I tested mine the other night and it kills VERY humanely. I was going to put pic's up but they were a bit too nasty  Ta Ta Sick  Quote Link to post
Guest baldie
Factory barreled 17 REM,s need cleaning every dozen or so rounds, but its a centrefire doing over 4000 fps, the 17 hmr, isnt as bad. Quote Link to post

Guest baldie
Yep, dewey rods are the best, its like driving a ferrari, at the side of a mini, they glide through the bore, and make cleaning a pleasure, instead of a chore, but they arent cheap, the best never is. Quote Link to post
