Good evening

Recommended Posts

Me and my buddy (scratchbat) headed to the permission at 6.30 - 7 for an evening of rabbit slaughter, it was quite hot and almost juts a little bit to early as on first site, there was little to be seen compared to previous days. First thought I would leave the farm to settle for a bit before I came in for my big sweep so we headed to the enormous end field with my gun (.22 air) and the gun he is currently using while his Webley Vulcan is down and out (standard FAC .22). Sat around for a minute and after about a week of not having any hayfever the wind changed and bang it got me. Sniffing away I had a smoke while waiiting for rabbits at about 80 yrds and eventually thought we may have a go at the crows before the disappear, further up the field Hugo makes a decent spot on a woody 50 yrds away in the grass and nails it. I head to the farm and depart from the .22 and evnter just airgun territory. Came round a corner of bump in the ground and had a big one at about 5 yrds away top of head barely visible through some undergrowth, tried to get a good shot but didnt and he bolted (attempt one). Had a bit more of a sneak around and after singliing one out at about 100 yrds used myself in the shade and the rabbit blasted by the sun to crawl round a corner and took him headshhot at about 30 yds. Next one was quite funny, stalked at a strange but only available angle onto a newly populated run, and got there, singled my rabbit out, crosshairs on, and realised I haadnt reloaded! Basically did the stalk in reverse for 10 yrds reloaded quietly (holding gun into body or ground) moved back round and bang headshot. Had 2 under my belt and thought ok not doing too badly despite having had been alot better the last few times (Blame the hayfever!).

Missed a couple just over there heads from rushed shots and one I think I clicked through the ear (will charge for the ear piercing when i catch up with him).

After going and meeting Hugo (scratchbat) to see how he had done his field had been suprisingly quiet, he had seen the odd doe and hare but was after rabbits and had just taken the one so far. So we headed together back through the farm for one last go and as we approached the turning where I had not been able to get the big rabbit the last 3 times yet everytime you left he just walked back out I said to Hugo this is the 4th and final attempt, and it was.

2 minutes later a bit further on it was getting dark, spotted another, and down it went. Not too bad seeing as the farm was quiet/ in mourning from the 15-20 taken in the last ew days not including this hunt.
