Squirrel_Basher 17,102
The use of the call is down to practice mate.Do not practice in the woods though as much like foxes ,bucks become call shy.The time of year or rather the window for using calls is from now until the end of October with the peak time around July .Full daylight is prefered rather than early morning or evening.Ive had good success in a high seat ,with bucks charging in underneath but sometimes they will play hide and seek as if shy to come to a doe .If youve ever been lucky enough to hear a doe squeal then thats what you need to copy .Its a sort of a" feeep",repeated at irregular intervals .There is a huge margin of era for the caller as no 2 does call the same .You will need your wits about you as they can come in round the back unseen and startle you at close range .More than once I have seen a mature buck break off his advance to chase away a younger rival with his neck outstretched.Good luck mate and keep us posted . FOXHUNTER 5,021
The Buttolo is an excellent call. Use it in the rut and you can have bucks screaming in at you , but as foxdropper says they try and sneak round the back of you so keep your eyes peeled.I have found that if a buck is going to respond he usually does so pretty quickly so you should be set up ready to take a shot as soon as you start feeping. I was stalking last year on the hill at Loch Tay, I only pressed the call once and immediately had a doe come from about half a mile away to within 30 yards and that is on really open ground. I also called another doe which brought the buck with her and was lucky to bag Quote Link to post
