Pregnant Springer

Recommended Posts

My working Springer is due to pup end of July early August what additions to normal feeding should I give her?

I am now feeding a mix of complete puppy food, tripe & chicken wings with scrambled egg every other day.

Can anyone reccomend any suppliments etc?

Also can anyone tell me what I need to apply after docking & dew clawing to prevent bleeding and help the healing process and where I can get some?

Peoples views on the treatment of docked and dewed claws will vary but some good advice is to do nothing . Let the bitch clean them as when you use any thing on them , remember the bitch will clean them any way and will ingest whatever you used .Not good .The main thing in rearing any pups is hygiene and letting the bitch do her own thing .Change the bedding every day when the bitch no longer cleans up after the pups .Good luck .

Don't go over the score with the feeding Croc, your feeding the pups inside your bitch too and too much grub could make the birth difficult with oversized pups.

Feed the bitch plenty after she's had the pups and is feeding them. The bigger they get the more they will need from the bitch so you can feed her as much as you want then.

I would forget the scrambled egg, not necessary, neither is milk. Just a good balanced diet and keep an eye on her condition. Good luck with pups.

Ad-lib is the way to feed nursing biches but as the pups wean you should gradually cut down the bitch as weight is hard to get off at this time .Do not cut her feed down straight away.Exercise the bitch when the pups can be left alone. The nursing of pups takes a fair bit out the bitch so she will need the food cut down slowly to allow her body to adjust .
