Guest CharlieC
Just back from having a half hour shine to try and get an easy rabbit for my pup. So far shes a bit of an unknown quantity, she is very keen and hunts and jumps well, but I havent really pushed her to see what she can do. I think deep down I know she isnt going to be fast enough for what I want, she is very bully, short and stocky and I think Im going to end up giving her to my mate who has expressed a bit of an interest in having her as a marking /ferreting dog. Anyway, my hope was to try and get a nice fat doe rabbit way out in the field (unsporting I know but when your starting off a pup you need to make it seem easy for their first few times ) but it was not to be, despite being nice and dark, cloudy and windy, we only saw 4 rabbits, she caught 2 and missed the other 2, one caught was a myxy VERY depressing to see it at this time of the year well she retrieved back to me and came back when she had finished her runs, so I was fairly pleased with her, and on the walk home she put a rather mangy looking ginger cat to ground in a rabbit warren I think it must have been under a wee bit of pressure cos there was a tree beside the warren yet it chose to go to ground instead. So all in all, I wouldnt say were a particularly great threat to the local wildlife population ............. yet. good hunting! Quote Link to post
