  1. Hi all,

I ahve been shooting irregularly for about 10yrs. i have recently sold my diana 300r (couldnt be fitted with a silencer) and im looking to replace it with something suitable for controlling rabbits on a golf course. i have a couple of 12bore shotguns, but reckon these might be a bit too noisey. i will be looking to spend about £300. i like the sound of the PCPs, but dont know much about them, having used only springers in the past. any advice welcome.

  2. ya pat x cocker be interesting, have you any pics? was it big or small type springer?

    cheers

ive got a pat x cocker, bred by dogs-and-natives from this site. she is 6mnths old. bags of energy. i am training her to the whistle at the moment. i intend to use her in the beating line next season (2010) and as a rough shooting dog, if i can train her to the standard required. looks like a lab puppy at the moment, smooth coated and quite slight built. she is smooth haired, but carries her tail high, like a terrier. i will post some pics when i get the camera back from my mate.

  3. hi guys

been skulking on the forum for a while now, listening and keeping shtum (two ears, one mouth and all that). followed the advice at the top of the forum, and filled out my shotgun app 4 weeks ago. although the website said 8-10 weeks for a response i got mine back on friday. on saturday i was down my local gun dealer, picked up an as new 3 shot 3" escort semi auto. i know they have had a bad press on here in the past, but its mossy oak real tree so i couldnt resist. i have also been trying my hand at rabbit snaring following woodga's video. the farmer that i have been snaring rabbits for has given me permission for the rest of his farm. had a walk about tonight, more of a recce than anything. took the gun tho, and got a half grown buck rabbit. that will do for the tea tomorrow. i was on my way home when i saw a fox cub crossing the headland. there is a small shoot on the land, and a sheep farm two field over, so the farmer has a 'zero tolerance' policy. i dropped to my knees in the tram lines and squeaked it in to 10 yrds, then dropped her.

i will put some photos up once i work out how to get them off my phone and onto the comp.

ps, thanks to dogs-and-natives for teaching me to squeak foxes.

  4. i recently bought a copy of woodga's rabbit snaring DVD. its is a great buy, very informative and instructional. i thought i would love o have a go, and ordered 500gms of wire and 100 eyelets from deben. to get going as soon as possible i also bought 10 snares from my local hunting shop. i laid them out along the fence line which borders my permission, and when i had checked this morning i had a half grown doe! im really excited and pleased. i can wait for my materials to arrive (should be wednesday) so that i can have a go at building my own to woodga's specifications.

there are still a great many rabbits in the area, they are almost at plague proportions, with large areas of the fields nibbled down to golf course length grass. does any one on here sell there rabbits to a butcher or game dealer? if so, how much do you get for them? i will be eating some of the rabbits myself, but if i end up with a surplus, then i wouldnt want to waste them, though maybe i could barter them for some other meat perhaps? thank you again to woodga for a great DVD.

You've got no chance mate. people seem very twitchy when it comes to permission or work or anything like that on here. ive been out a few times with a really good and genuine lad from northumberland, but he is the only one ive met willing to stick his neck out after nearly 3 years on the site. best bet would be to go round shoots and ask face to face or in your local gun store. Good luck.

I love being out in the countryside, and am more than willing to help with anything that gets me out and about in the evenings and on weekends. i would love to help with feedings, trapping, pen maintenance etc. I have joined NOBs and BASC, but am looking for something to do during the summer until the start of next season. im not looking for a job or career, just something to do in my free time. Any offers or advice gratefully received.

    Thanks

  8. She is a patterdale terrier cocker spaniel cross. I have no pics but there are some up in the for sale section from DnN under the Cross Bred Hunting Dogs topic. Jus to clarify, i mean that i will NOT be bringing the dog with me, should anyone let me tag along on a dig/ratting trip. Thanks

  10. I have recently moved to Essex and am looking for some one who would let me go along with them for some terrier work. I know its out of season for foxes, but I would love to go ratting. Similarly, if there is any one doing pest control on foxes who needs an extra hand with the spade, I'd love to go. I have recently bought one of DnN terrier spaniel crosses and would like to enter her to rat in a few months (she is 4months currently). She is my first dog, so anyone letting me tag along without a dog would be very much appreciated. Thanks

  11. DnN just got back down south. Thanks very much for today. Excellent result today, hope your dog heals well. You are a true sportsman and your dogs are a credit to you. Can't wait for next weekend. Dog fox was 16lbs on the scales. When I skinned him there was old shot in his rear end. Looking forward to collecting more redskins next time.

    All the best ug

  12. I have been a member of the site for sometime and read many of the forum topics. I have never owed a terrier before, just a pet lab. I would like to own and work a terrier. I live in the North area of Northumberland. Advice for novices on this site seems to be read as much as possible and find someone to take you out. I have bought D. B. Plummer's 'The New Complete Lurcher' and found it most interesting. I was wondering if anyone can recommend a similar book for working terriers, now that J. Darcy's 'Dig Deep Throw Well Back' is sold out. I have tried searching amazon.com but come up with very old (and expensive!) books or breed books.

    Thank you for your time.
