Ya he is on hand signals but I'd like him to push on abit more .I know he is young and lacking experience .never worked him with a lurcher or whippet no. He is fearless in cover but doesn't seem to push on. Would the fact that he comes out be because he is relying too much on Me to send him

Ya that's true point taken interesting point too. U would think wit scent that he would push on some bit because he has a tendency to run up outside of cover then enter again.what would ye do in this case .thanks for the help.sorry if the questions come across as silly

I'm curious to what u mean ? I had this dog out today and hunts 20 yards of cover fine then pops out runs down the outside and pops in again .it's funny cause there is scent there and can't understand why he wouldn't keep going inside??

Well he primarily a gun dog and spent time getting the training in order.didn't wanna take him out and let him run wild . I'm here for advice so what u reckon morton. I didn't wanna sour him cover ?

Hey lads I have 12 month old springer who I take on rabbits .he has only been out 3 times and is going ok .I have older dog that runs cover and was wondering would it be good idea to run him along with the older dog.just to show him the ropes

Cheers lad,totally agree with you.Need to steady her up a bit.She flies out too when I fire a shot.I've started putting her lead on her and standing on it to stop her taking off. just start throwing dummies while she is sitting and go out and pick them yourself. then when she is steady sit her facing you throw dummies over her head ,she will watch it then when she looks back at u give her the "back" command with ur hand up in the air palm facing her .then move on to throwing a dummies with her sitting beside u ,send her out for it ,stop her and when she sits and looks back give her the "ba

not claiming to be an expert but the stop whistle would be handy cause to send her back when she got over u must first stop her and get her attention,also if she is sitting and staying which she is it wouldnt take much to steady her to the thrown retrieve,dont leave her run in from now on,nice dog though

if ur in an area where rabbits are scarce could a scenario be set i.e live rabbit released into a cover and put dog in on blind?

ya a bit of encouragement ya but not too much .nothing against telling a dog to "get on" up through cover but when they are hunting i leave them do it cant see why you would tell to hunt

dont claim to be an expert but whats with all the talking when the dog is "hunting" there wont be a bird left for her to flush if u keep that chat up.nice dog though

any other methods or tricks that make a dog think he is going to cover for a reason? is there an unorthodox method ye terrier lads use to get them to run and stay in cover

thats something i never thought of and sounds like an idea,trying to get that close to rabbits at night could be the problem but im gonna try it

hey lads thought id run this by ye , im looking to know have ye any methods for training a dog to go to cover , i have springer who is slow in coming on and doesnt even follow the older dog , have ye any methods/games ye use .i know rabbits should pull him in but they are scarce

ok lads have a springer dog that is a brilliant dog to run cover (for birds) and am looking for a good bitch to use him on but to no avail so am thinking of crossing him off to a terrier of some sort any ideas on which terrier would be ideal,i bought an 8 week old parsonxpaterdale bitch and was thinking that when the time comes i might cross him to her ,im sick of so called cover springers ,so what u think of this cross or should i look at a different breed
