  2. I've only been ferreting a year and a bit mate. I'm all self taught and I've found a hobby for life. I've found that my hob is my best worker and by far the most affectionate, but the Jill's are still good at what they do.

Nets, ferret box and a locator is all u need (and a spade).

Just get out there mate. I was shockingly bad at first but practice makes perfect.

Good luck and keep us updated on how ur getting on.

thanks for the advice bud , will be getting kitted out asap!!!cheers
  3. dont need to cook any meat for a ferret, i always feed raw and have done for nearly 40 years. please get someone near you that knows what they are talking about and point you in the right direction. i'd start another thread on here with the title of ferreting in the gloucseter (i think thats where your from)area. i'm sure someone will gladly help you out

cheers for the advice cant seem to find anyone through word of mouth so will try ur suggestion cheers.
  4. your a farmer and you must have land to work ferrets/dogs on. there will be plenty of experienced chaps that will leap at the chance to take you out and show you the ropes. its the best of learning, as books/dvd's/forums do tend to tell you ideals and not their mistakes. and as we all know, we learn from our mistakes.

    thanks that a good idea

  8. evening all , went out around 11 friday night , saw nothing in the 60 acre block i shoot on the farm i look after ,walking back to the house and theres charlie and his mrs sat on the silage pit next to my house think its more about the luck of the draw this time of year plus the lady down the lane feeds foxes from her back door (madness) so there fairly tame . as for the time of day i can usually squeak a charlie or two anywhen between dusk and dawn although they are plentyfull round here .

Must be quite a sight watching her feed foxes from her "back door"!! Must take some practice to!

I just spat drink all over myself laughing to that , cheers mate lol

just realised what i wrote lol , true though lads
  9. A few mk4 set 24/7 should make a inroad mate the mk6's are meant for a bit bigger vermin

cheers for the advice mate i brought the mk6s for squirrel tree traps but figured they would do for rats to, the rats are quite big they eat all the stuff for the cattle ie mollasses / wheat/ hyypro soya/raip meal mixed together . have found some mk4s for 7.50 each on ebay so will buy aa few now , thanks again
  10. thanks for your reply , forgot to say the council bait the farm , the chicken feeders are hanging from string in the coop the only place they can live is in the straw barn as im a bit ott on keeping the farm clean , i have a four acre paddock behind the sheds with a thick hedgebank , i reckon thats there hq . whats the difference with the mk4 ? thanks again

  11. calling all rat trappers im in need of some advise on the best rat trap to use around my chicken coop .

at the moment i am opperating a couple of tunnel traps with fenn mk6 inside and a couple of norfolk trapper cages, i seem to be having limited success some 3 a night sometimes none at all , the rats make there way to and fro between my cattle sheds and chickens and have well established runs , i did spend a couple hours out with the 410hushpower about a week ago and had 18 but this hasnt made a difference , i have a rat attack smoker and a patterdale plus my mates terriers to and smoked them around november agin this seemed to make little difference, any help would be greatly apriciated thanks in advance for any advice. tom

  12. I also have a Rapid - superb. They are bomb proof and those in the know are snapping them up. I have a friend who has bought 5 since Theoben closed their doors (on top of the 3 he already had). Price of Rapids is going up....mine is not for sale. That is also in .20 Easy to work on, rugged, reliable and very strong. Accuracy is excellent, every bit as good as any modern rifle. The Rapid can hold its own in any company.

thanks for the info , can you give me a rough idea how much one would cost and also how heavy they are?
