  1. I read the larger 1/4 size chips are better, but do ones with smaller chip sizes like 1/6 or 1/8 still work. I won't be using the setup for distances over 25 yards really. Thanks for the model numbers I can use them to search on eBay and see what I can get cheap? If anyone is using any others please add them to the list.
  2. What model Sony handycam do you use on your night vision setup? This will give me a guide as to what models I can use for my nv setup I'm looking to put together. Thanks for your input guys.
  3. local hunt this morning
  4. They come in thursday 4.99 a pair, if you go on the Aldi website in the special buys section you'll find the pic of them in Thursdays listing. I think I'll get a pair then.
  5. I'll have to try putting up a target at close range then, and figure out which mil dot I need to use, if you folks reckon its not worth changing the mounts.
  6. There are some anglers neoprene gloves with finger and thumbs which you are able to fold back, coming in on Thursday. Are these ok to use as shooting gloves, anyone had them in the past?
  7. I currently use a hawke hd 3-9 x 40 mil dot scope, I ask about using these high mounts as I do some rat vermin control, and occasionally I've come across one within 8-10 ft and its just blurred being to close to use the scope. As my rifle is fitted with fix sights I wondered if there was a way to utilise them in such a situation. But for instance if these sort of mounts mentioned affect accuracy or there are any other issues, then I would just forget the idea.
  8. When you say pellet drop issues, do you mean when using high mounts to medium sized you will just need to re zero?
  9. it would be for use on my hw99s rifle, so if need be at close ranges I could get a shot off accurately with the fixed sights, when a scope would be inadequate.
  10. Can you get scope mounts that enable you to use fixed sights and scopes on the same rifle?
  11. I too keep chickens and have been doing a bit of vermin control myself, here is one I got at the start during the day, when they were in bigger numbers and feeling braver.
  12. I could make another bracket and fit it to the end of the barrel before the foresight underneath, the cable from the battery is more than long enough. It won't be able to reflect back off anything then. Thanks for your thoughts
  13. this was how my rifle was set up, how do yo stop the reflective/glow in the scopes?
  14. I thought about that but I have to use a generator for electric supply, so that's out the question. I was thinking of putting a few solar powered garden lights out, but not sure if they would produce enough light. Had a shoot last night, saw about 3, shot one, but then the others went to ground and didn't come back out. I made a bracket for my torch and mounted it to my scope, I've had it mounted at the back and front of the scope, but keep getting a white glare mark in my scope, I'm not sure if it's reflecting off the barrel or summat. It's bloody annoying. Any ideas on this anyone? I've lowe
  15. I looked at the lamp you mentioned it's about £180, that's a fair bit of money for a lamp. I've got a powerfull head lamp, could I just put a red filter on the lens or on the front of a torch lens and see how I get on, would that work?
  16. Thanks for the replies, I think my cheapest bet is the handycam, I've spent a lot of hours this week reading all sorts of info on the topic. I've read about ir lasers, and lamps, I read some stuff about the lasers burning out, so would I be better of getting a lamp and putting an ir filter on it. I would never be shooting over 25 yards and the rats would be 10 yards, could I use a ir torch, I've seen some on eBay from china. If I could attach the 3w torch to the rifle would that project enough light for 10 yard ranges?
  17. Hi I'm new to the forum and shooting in general, bought my first air rifle about 5 weeks ago, i got a hw99s, I keep horses and chickens and the last part of this year developed a rat problem, basically as usual scoffing all my chicken food. so I decided to get an air rifle to do some vermin control, not keen on using poison for various reasons. got a couple during the day, had 4 around dusk time when feed for the chickens were out last thing. decided to use a torch to light the area and got about 3 more. i was amazed that they were coming out with the light on. it was a fixed light so i just l
