show greyhounds exist and are awful, a greyhound is an essential ingredient in lurcher breeding but for me that's it, they are not capable of doing what I wanted from a running dog, physically or mentally.
I dont think any person in this game would go near a show greyhound mate, esp given the abundance of them outside of that scene that are working / racing and available (same can be said for a Deerhound if that was someones thing also).
All comes down to horses for courses in my opinion.

Best fox dog I ever seen was a full greyhound bitch Straight if the track. Took some time socialising but came good. She would take them with ease and never came off any.
unfortunatly she was stolen before a litter could be taken. Useless on deer but fox she was unreal
Agree, although you do get the odd one that is not true to their heritage and lacks instinct / drive. The Greyhound is the only "non tampered" with breed which is still used for what it was bred for. No show people have fckd with the breed for looks / ring.
A lot of the old timers down here (Australia) often comment the old coursing greyhounds were the best dogs they ever kept.

Yep nice them. Should get good pups bred back to good stag hound , will they be used for rabbits. Foxes, and will they do pigs?
All fast game, bird. Maybe pigs but we are in the south so not many of them down here. Hoping to produce some fast, one out dogs with good endurance. The people we give them to should expect honest solo workers capable of putting vermin on the back of the ute.

Anyone working full greyhounds? I'm bringing in a bitch with intentions of breeding but will also be giving her a look. Decided on a tidy 56 lb bitch but her litter ranges from 56lb to 70 lb racing weights.
I do mate. Got two bitches (32kg and 36kg so big bitches) straight off the track and they work well. Key is spending time with them and allowing them to transition from race / kennel life over time. Both have good natures and are full blown catching and dispatching dogs. We have got them jumping on the ute and have their recall ok. Need to be mindful around stock and fences for obvious reasons. When one of them comes in season we will be putting a big roodog (staghound) over them in the hope to breed some slightly bigger boned greyhound types.

I put some pics up awhile ago of my coldblood pups. I love this pup, Boss. He is now 10 months and hit a growth spurt, level on the withers at 28 1-4 inches. Not as big or as heavy built as some staghounds I've owned in the past, but smart, great handle, and fences like a veteran, broke to cattle, horses, goats. Boss still thinks rabbits and armadillos are fair game, lol. He and his sister are a good age to get to see some jacks(hares) when the weather breaks in another month or so.
Nothing too exciting, I just figure sometimes it's fun to see a pic of another man's dog in another part of the world. Best luck to you all, hope you and your dogs stay sound through the upcoming season, Bob
Any updates on this hound mate? Fine looking animal this one looks just right.

How many dogs you had from pups that did not make the grade in your life time let's see some honest posts lads
Mate, is a good question and for me probably more than i am proud of. As a young bloke i had a few pups start early, matured quickly and were cracking one out dogs at a young age, so of course that set the benchmark of what i expected and at what age for future upcoming pups. So if dogs weren't doing what these dogs were by a certain age, they'd either be given to mates as pets/farm dogs or sold on. Of course looking back you see all the mistakes that you made in not giving them time, and the realization that one training method is not applicable to all dogs, and dogs learn in different ways / environments. I still to this day probably arent patient enough and expect too much from young dogs TBH.

Thanks king....I will put plenty of time in and see where we go...common sense goes a long way...
Expose the pup to everything mate as soon as you get him and lots of positive reinforcement. Will prob have a lot if drive so education is key.

G'day from Australia. Curious to know if many Parson types are being worked these days? Not many true Parson Terriers down here now, a lot of Patterdales, Jagd Terriers and Jack / Fox Terrier crosses. Cheers

Id say that's good going.
Nice pups mate. Whats the dark brindle?
I take pups out as youngsters purely for exposure to the bush. I dont expect them to be near the pointy end until 12-18 months. I expect them to be showing interest and eagerness to be involved though (barking, circling the action, tail up type behavior).
