I'd work with her another 12 months mate. If she isn't mature enough to work properly with you she might not be mature enough to raise a litter and pups are hard enough work to raise with a good mum. If she needs a lot of help it's a full time job and more.

My stud dog doesn't go over anything that's not proven and you will find a lot of people with good dogs won't because they don't want the dogs name spoiled. Give her another year or so and let her mature a bit and prove herself as a worker and then you will be able to find a decent dog to put over her. Sometimes a little patience is for the best. A lot of dogs take a while to grow up especially those that have some Saluki.

Cheers for that pal at least theres somebody on here thats willing to give advice and not go on like there in play group thanks

That's ok. Just make sure you think long and hard and do your research before having your bitch lined. Raising a litter can be very costly and extremely time consuming not to mention the homing of the pups you don't want. The last thing the rescue centres need is more lurchers. Just gives working lads a bad name when dogs end up there.

Hi there lads im looking for a stud dog that is working the fens and is a well put together dog to put over my bitch. Im new to this game and want to keep a few pups back. My bitch is out of some good lines sire an dam are roxy an dan. My bitch is only two and half and i know what half of you will say why breed her now. And im breeding her because she doesnt listen when out in field just hunts up all the time and pulls the pudding out of quarry which is no good, with her being white and doesnt look good wi law lol chest full of blood.

your not for real are you? that has to be the worst excuse i have ever heard for breeding a litter.

Ha ha - and I was trying to be nice!

  4. The first time it happens it's beyond horrible: you feel awful, responsible and as if it is somehow your fault. It isn't your fault at all: plenty of pet lurchers have killed themselves running about in the local park: speed kills. Like others have said, it is a sad part of owning a running dog, and your bitch was lucky that it would have been over too quickly for her to realise what was happening. You refer to her as your old bitch: how old was she? I'd sooner my old dogs kill themselves in the field, as long as it was quick, than mouldering away into oblivion and having to eventually get put down.

So true. Lost one of mine a few years ago when his back leg snapped in 3 places chasing a football in the garden with the kids. 2 days before that he had been out hunting. It could have happened anywhere.

Sorry to hear about your dog. Try and remember her as she was and not how it ended.

  5. The bit that makes me laugh on the add is WOULD make EXCELLENT workers due to the chiwawas good hearing!!!

So basically they haven't got a clue and are trying every angle possible to get rid of the poor little sods as fast as possible.

Besides which don't chihuahuas have all sorts of congenital problems?

  6. Thanks lads. They are out of the two dogs in my Avatar. The bitch is Saluki x the Red dog. Sire is Foxy charlie bitch x Dan dog.

Seagull on both sides but the only pup to have thrown a rougher coat is that little bitch in my pics.

Thanks Johnny 2. Really pleased that you are happy with your pup. You need to get another picture up of him soon. It's a while since I've seen the big lad.

  7. Dog pup that I kept from the litter I bred is now just over 5 months now and coming along nicely. Strong little buggar and very Saluki in temperament but so far he is fairly obedient and his reserved nature is starting to be overcome by curiosity. The other pup in some of the pictures is his sister who is owned by my mate. If you are sick of snow pictures look away now, unfortunately I can't do anything about the weather!

  8. dont tel me your snowed in lol i will get you a 4x4 aswel then ffs lol,and yer nice pup carl atb mel

We are looking at getting a legacy but need to sell the Picasso first lol :)

I had a Legacy until recently. Absolutely brilliant motor. LPG converted as well so cheap to run and tax. Only got rid because the garage I got fuel from shut down and it was 25 mile to the next nearest place with LPG. Regret it now!

  9. Personally I'm not right keen on the idea of giving pups away. People tend to appreciate more something they have paid for and any dog has a right to be looked after properly regardless of it's breeding. If people don't want to pay or can't afford to pay makes you wonder what they will do about feeding, worming, vaccinations and possible vet bills!
